Walton was born May 8, 1929 in Augusta GA to the late Purvis James Boatwright, Sr. and the late Louise Ferguson Boatwright. She grew up in South Carolina and graduated from Spartanburg High School and Converse College. She shared a lifelong passion for golf with her brother, the late PJ Boatwright, Jr. She said her greatest achievement after her children was being inducted into the SC Golf Hall of Fame before her brother.
Walton contributed much of her life to women's golf in the State of South Carolina. She was an outstanding golfer winning many tournaments in the Carolinas. She was past president of the Women's SC Golf Association, the Women's Carolinas Golf Association, Chair Woman of the Women's South Carolina Match Play Championship and, along with Jeanne Campbell, hosted the tournament for many years. The tournament is now named in their honor. Continuing her support for golf, Walton was also a USGA officiate at junior qualifiers across the country. Walton was inducted into the SC Golf Hall of Fame in 1985.
She loved her family, all branches and as far back as she could talk about. And her forte was not only with golf but also fishing, wood working, and anything else that involved her hands.
