Walter Gallup Schroeder, 78, of James Island, South Carolina, husband of Emily Smith Schroeder entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 21, 2019. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 1605 Harbor View Road at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Walter was born January 8, 1941 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William Jessen Schroeder and Elizabeth Gallup Schroeder. He was a graduate of James Island High School and the retired owner of Schroeder's Office Supply Products which he started with his father in 1979. He was a United States Army Veteran assigned to the 942nd Transportation Corp. Walter was very active and loved to sail in the Regatta at the James Island Yacht Club and take trips with his family to Brevard, North Carolina. He was a Charter Member of Martin Luther Evangelical Church and a Past President of The German Friendly Society.
Walter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emily; daughter, Michelene S. Ferguson (Michael) of Lincolnton, GA; son, Walter Michael Schroeder (Christina) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Jeannie S. Lindler of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren: Darby Kress, Emily Behrens Ketchum, Elizabeth Ferguson, Marcus Ferguson, Mollie Reid, Jessie Schroeder, Colin Molloy, Matthew Molloy, and Benjamin Molloy; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Fredrick Schroeder.
