Walter "Walt" Mizell, 84, of North Charleston, SC, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 2:00 pm. Interment with military honors, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel.
Walt was born January 26, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, one of four children of the late Walter Mizell and Peggy Grooms Walters. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and retired from civil service having worked at the Army Depot and Polaris Missile Base. Walt operated a propeller repair business also. He was a member of the VFW 3142 where he enjoyed dancing. He was a diver in the 1960's and 70's for the Charleston County Rescue.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Darlene Weeks Yoakum and her husband Stan of Moncks Corner, SC and Janet Renee Walley and her husband James of Olar, SC; sister, Rowena Valentine and her husband Dean of Spartanburg, SC; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Elizabeth Mizell and son, Walter Mizell III.
