Walter James Curtis, 93, of Hanahan, SC, entered into eternal rest Saturday, February 10, 2018. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Divine Redeemer Catholic Church 1106 Fort Drive, Hanahan, SC at 10:00 am. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Walter was born January 17, 1925 in New York City, NY, son of the late Walter Curtis and Lillian Dvorak Curtis. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the US Submarine Veterans of WWII, US Submarine Veterans, Charleston Base and US Submarine Veterans, Weeki Wachee Base. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 269, Goose Creek and the Holland club. He was a steam fitter for a mechanical engineering company.
Walter is survived by his wife, Maureen Anne McLaughlin Curtis of Hanahan, SC; three sons: Walter John Curtis of Branchburg, NJ, Michael Charles Curtis of North Syracuse, NY and Gregory Quinn Curtis, MD of Hanover, NH; daughter, Laraine Curtis of Mount Pleasant, SC; brother, Bernard Curtis of Maryland; and six grandchildren.
