Vivian Flowers McCants, 90, of Ravenel, SC, widow of the late Joseph V. McCants, Sr. went to sleep in Jesus on April 30, 2021 and is awaiting Resurrection Day.
Vivian was born April 27, 1931 in Bude, MS, daughter of the late Hiram Clark Flowers and Zelma Durham Flowers. She moved to Charleston at age 12 with her mother and two of her siblings to be close to four older brothers who were serving in the Navy here. Vivian's life was one of service to the Lord and others. She was a wonderful mother, friend, and perpetual volunteer. She taught her children to love the Lord, strive for excellence, to be resilient and unafraid. Some of her favorite sayings were "do it right the first time" and "you can do anything you set your mind to do." Vivian had a kind and generous heart, was enthusiastic about life, enjoyed bowling and gardening, and was known for preparing and serving meals to many people in her younger years.
Vivian served as Community Service Director for the Charleston Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years, taking food, medication, and other goods to numerous people in need in the Charleston area. She was also involved in the Church School, acting as a Board member, School Board Chairman and Home and School Leader for many years. She poured heart and soul into the well-being of many students, tutoring reading, and leading out in many fund-raisers. She also worked with her husband at McCants Glass and Carpet for many years and ran Lakeview Campground.
She is survived by her children whom she loved dearly, daughters, Kathy Richards, husband Eddie, Cynthia McCants, husband Willie Tezza, Tina McCants, husband Al Williams, her sons, Joseph McCants, Jr. and Dale McCants, wife Wendy, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister and best buddy, Verda Ruth Wysong, and six brothers, Kermit, Curtis, Pearly, Spencer, Walton, and Ingram Flowers.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 in the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 2518 Savannah Highway at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at the Riverview Memorial Park followed by a private burial. For your safety, masks are required, and social distancing will be observed.
