Vivian G. Boyd, 96, of Hanahan, SC widow of Virgil Gerald Boyd died Wednesday, March 14, 2012. She was a wife, mother and long-time LPN at St. Francis Hospital. Vivian was first employed as a Nursing Assistant in 1956 and encouraged by the hospital nuns to start school while working to study and become an LPN. She said, "At age 40, with my children almost grown, I began a second career."
Mrs. Boyd was the daughter of Josepha and Fraser Hill of Yemassee. She is predeceased by four siblings and survived by three sons: Virgil Jr., retired US Air Force, living in Tulsa, OK, Charles Lee resident of Hanahan, retired from the Post and Courier and her youngest son, Dennis is retired from AT&T and resides in Summerville. Vivian is survived by nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and a special niece Francine Miler of Summerville.
She practiced her Roman Catholic religion at the former St. Joseph's in downtown Charleston and the Divine Redeemer in Hanahan. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Ebenezer Cemetery, Yemassee, SC. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road Friday, March 16, 2012 between 5:00 and 7:00 pm with the vigil prayers and rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.
