Virginia Lou Pellegrino, 87, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Lt. Col James Manuel Pellegrino, US Army (Ret.) entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 28, 2018. Her funeral service will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Mount Pleasant Chapel. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Virginia was born April 5, 1931 in Fort Madison, Iowa, daughter of the late Walter E. Webster and the late Audrey Shumway Webster. She received her nursing degree from St. Francis Nursing School in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Virginia worked at Archibald Hospital in Thomasville, GA as a Registered Nurse in the nursery. She later worked at Tallahassee Memorial as an NICU nurse and started the "Kangaroo Care" program to help NICU babies. She was also ordained to give last rites to dying babies. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, ceramics, baking, collecting antique Santas and crafting.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan "Susie" Audrey Vahala (Mark) of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Phillip Pellegrino (Debbie) of Flower Mound, TX; two sisters: Nancy Robinson of Wildomar, CA and Noel Clark of Royal Oak, MI; grandson, Matthew Pellegrino; granddaughter, Danielle Marissa Vahala; and her two pet schnauzers: Pebbles and Raisin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Jean Lange.
