Virginia Louise Adkins McDowell, 74, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of William A. McDowell, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, in a local hospital after a brief illness. A Celebration of Virginia's Life will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013, at the graveside in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Mrs. McDowell was born February 4, 1939 in Adams, Tennessee, daughter of the late Horace Macon and Mary Agnes Sullivan Adkins. She was dedicated to caring for her family, and loved fishing, gardening, and doing ceramics.
She is survived by her husband, William A. McDowell of Charleston, SC; her daughters, Cathy Keller-Edmands and her husband, Stanley, of Ravenel, SC and Teri Hanley and her husband, Lee, of Cottageville, SC; her step-daughter, Melissa Mosny and her husband, Shane, of Charleston, SC; her step-son, Scott McDowell and his wife, Rene', of Copperas Cove, TX; her grandchildren, Ginia Hanley of Ravenel, SC, D.J. Hanley of Cottageville, SC, Kristen Cortez and her husband, Emilio, of Copperas Cove, TX, and Alyssa McDowell of Copperas Cove, TX; her four great-grandchildren; her brother, Michael Wayne Adkins and his wife, Lynn, of Bardstown, KY; and her beloved pet Chihuahua, Brandy. Virginia was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sheila Gayle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Virginia's name to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29405.
