Virginia Irene Manutes

It is with profound sadness that the family of Virginia "Gee Gee" Irene Manutes announce her passing at the age of 82 of On August 28, 2024 in Daniel Island, South Carolina. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Bobby; children: Christie Asimos (husband, Andrew), Joyce Theos, Toni Searles (husband, Michael) and Paul Manutes (wife, Nicole); grandchildren: Bess Whitmore (husband Brooks), Mary Asimos, Luke Asimos, Christopher Theos, Max Searles, Abby Searles, Elias Manutes, Eleni Manutes and great-granddaughter, Sophie Whitmore. 

Gee Gee was born in Tarpon Springs, Florida October 7, 1941 before she and her family moved to Charleston, SC when she was nine months old. She and Bobby met in Florida in 1956 and were married in Charleston, South Carolina in October of 1959. They moved to Flint, Michigan where they started their life and family and remained there for over the next 50 years. Gee Gee wanted to go “back home” to Charleston to live out the remainder of life with her husband, putting them closer to family as well. She and Bobby moved to Daniel Island, South Carolina in 2007. 

Gee Gee was an amazingly loving and devout wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was very involved with her church, her family and she was an avid antique enthusiast and dealer. Gee Gee could host one heck of a party and did so often, particularly high holidays, with seemingly effortless and magical culinary prowess. She loved the beach, picking shells at the shoreline and crafting trinkets from her finds. She was an avid gardener, producing breathtaking landscapes of magazine-quality bounty. 

A wake will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street at 10:00 a.m. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashely River Road. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel.
