Virginia Flowers Getsinger

September 1, 1919 — December 10, 2010

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of December 10, 2010, Virginia Flowers Getsinger, widow of Hubert Benjamin Getsinger.  Residence, James Island, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in St. James Episcopal Church, James Island, SC Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 am. Interment, churchyard.  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Sunday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.



 

Mrs. Getsinger was born September 1, 1919 in Dovesville, SC, the daughter of Robert Bealer Flowers and Annie Montague Wheeler Flowers. She was a graduate of St. Johns High School in Darlington and Draughins Business College. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and retired as a secretary from The Charleston Naval Shipyard.  Mrs. Getsinger was an active member and secretary of the UDC, Charleston Avinger Chapter for many years and was a founding member of the Lowcountry Senior Center, James Island, SC.



 


Mrs. Getsinger lived most of her life on James Island and for the past few years, in Mt. Pleasant at Sandpiper Courtyard where she had many friends among the residents and staff.



 


She is survived by two sons: John H. Getsinger (Amy) of Charleston, SC and Robert E. Getsinger (Reyn?) of James Island, SC; one daughter: Deborah Getsinger Young (Mike) of Charleston, SC; five grandsons and two great grandchildren; former daughter-in-law and friend, Brenda Getsinger. She is predeceased by her daughter Mary Jayne Getsinger, five sisters and two brothers.



 


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
