Virginia Fisher of Mount Pleasant, SC (formerly of Bemus Point, NY and Sarasota, FL) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Sunday, January 17, 2022. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Bemus Point, NY. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Virginia was born Virginia Adair Guthrie August 29, 1935 in Columbus, IN, the only daughter of the late Donald Guthrie and Mary Adair Beatty. She was a loving and devoted wife to Richard L Fisher, whom she married on September 6, 1958. They spent the next 62 years together, raising three children while pursuing their respective careers in healthcare and teaching. She will be remembered as a woman who cherished her family, friendships, and helping others.
Virginia attended Westminster College and went on to earn a B.S. degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in 1958. She additionally received a New York State teaching certificate from SUNY Buffalo in 1985. Her career began as an Assistant Nursing Instructor at Jamestown Community College and continued throughout her life, working as a Registered Nurse at WCA Hospital in Jamestown, NY, Jamestown Visiting Nurses Association, Staff Builders Home Health Care, and Hospice of Chautauqua County, NY. Virginia was a dedicated health care professional, providing quality care while always treating her patients with compassion, dignity, and respect. She faithfully served the Chautauqua, NY health care community for nearly 40 years, until her retirement in 1998.
Virginia developed and nurtured many close friendships throughout her life. She enjoyed socializing with her many friends and being active. She loved nature, frequenting the Jamestown Audubon Community Nature Center to engage her deep interest in bird conservation and their habitats. Virginia loved the arts and being creative, finding great joy in activities like gardening, watercolors, or working with stained glass.
Virginia was an active member of both the Methodist Church in Bemus Point, NY and the Vamo United Methodist Church in Sarasota, FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Fisher of Cotuit, MA; her sons, Scott Fisher (Stephanie) of Chanhassen, MN, and Rick Fisher (Sarah) of North Charleston, SC, and four grandsons, Connor Fisher Hayes, Henry Fisher, Jacob Fisher, and Louis Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and her parents, Donald and Mary Guthrie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Homes of South Carolina and mailed to 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. All donations made will remain local and designated for indigent care.
