Virginia Owens Doran, 90, passed away on the evening of June 19, 2011. Virginia was the widow of Robert Jude Doran, Sr. She was born in St. George, SC and spent most of her youth in Beaufort and subsequently Charleston, where she lived until her death. She graduated from Memminger High School. Virginia and Bobby married in 1942, and she worked in the Unit Buying Control Division of Sears for many years. Later they created a landscaping business, Tree Top Landscaping, and had projects all over the Charleston and Columbia areas. Most recently, she worked and retired from the James Doran Company.
Virginia was extremely loyal and dedicated to her family, teaching children and grandchildren how to water ski, swim and many other of life's lessons. She was an essential component in making all holidays' great events that everyone lovingly enjoyed and consequently kept the family close. She had an entrepreneurial mind and was constantly thinking of the next interesting activity to accomplish, teaching her children by her example, the value of developing themselves to fulfill their potential in life. Summers on the Isle of Palms were full and beautiful with family, friends and wonderful food. Virginia helped make lasting memories for all of her family to cherish.
One of the things that Virginia loved most was power walking with her best friend Virginia Bennett. They walked all over downtown Charleston together and enjoyed this activity for many years.
Those left to miss her presence are her daughter, Kay Doran Clamp and husband David of Columbia, SC, son Robert Jude Doran, Jr. and wife Tracy of Mt. Pleasant, SC, grandchildren Rion Foley and wife Elizabeth of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Ian Foley and wife Shannon of Columbia, SC, Shane Doran and wife Michelle of Mt.
