Virginia Lucas Deden

Virginia Lucas Deden, 92, of Johns Island, South Carolina, wife of the late Nolan Selmar Deden, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 25, 2025. Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 in the Old St. Andrews Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Old St. Andrew's Parish Churchyard. The family will receive friends Friday, May 2, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

Virginia was born March 2, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Hume Lucas, Jr. and Cornelia Taft Lucas. She is survived by her brother, John Hume (Judy) Lucas; two sons, John David (Jeanette) Deden, Robert Taft (Elizabeth) Deden; daughter, Virginia Deden (James) Burton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a nephew.

Virginia graduated from Charleston High School in 1951 and then from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1953. She was a dedicated RN, which inspired her granddaughters to follow in her footsteps. She was a long-time member of the Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church, where she especially enjoyed volunteering for the Tea Room during Lent. She had a love of “playing” on her farm doing her yard work; swimming; loving on her various animals; and going crabbing, shrimping, and boating. But her favorite thing was watching all her churns growing and playing around her, surrounding her with love.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Saint Andrew’s Parish Church.
