Virginia Beckham Dallis, widow of William A. Dallis of Columbia, SC, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the home of her son in Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services at the graveside in Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC, Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
Mrs. Dallis was born August 27, 1925 in Columbia, SC, the daughter of William Kinsler Beckham and Virginia Amanda Boozer Beckham. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina having received her B.A. in 1945 and her M.A in 1948. A native of and life-long resident of Columbia, she taught at Heathwood Hall Elementary School and enjoyed her many years as a librarian with the Richland County Public Library.
She remembered fondly playing golf as a member of Forest Lake Country Club with her husband Bill, who practiced law in Columbia for many years and traveling with him, particularly their time in San Francisco during World War II. A life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, she enjoyed the opportunity to travel with her daughter Ellen who was a member of the choir.
She is survived by her son: W. Alex Dallis, Jr. and his wife, Robin Renken of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren: William A. Dallis, III, James B. Dallis and Elizabeth V. Dallis; one great granddaughter Lydian Dallis; and her niece and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Caroline Walter Beckham Corey and her daughter Ellen Kennerly Dallis.
