Virginia Dickens Cannon, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of James L. Cannon, died Friday, September 2, 2016. A cryptside service will be held Monday, September 5, 2016 in the Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at the J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Monday, from 10:00 am until time of the service.
Virginia was born February 2, 1929, in Wilson, North Carolina, daughter of the late Albert Oscar Dickens and Catherine Tipton Dickens. She was a graduate of Charles L. Coon High School, where she was Valedictorian, and attended Wake Forest University where she was a majorette. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College, and went on to earn a Masters in Education degree from East Carolina University. Virginia dedicated 30 years as a guidance counselor with Charleston County Schools. She was also a dance instructor and an etiquette teacher. She loved dancing, collecting antiques, and studying the Bible.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years; her sister, Polly Dickens Wurthmann of Sullivan's Island, SC; and many nieces and nephews who loved and adored her.
