Virgil Martin Albers, Sr., 92, of Huger, South Carolina, husband of Joyce Roberta Albers died Sunday, December 24, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Virgil was born October 21, 1925 in Le Mars, Iowa, son of the late George Albers and Mary Botsford Albers. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and the Philippine Liberation Campaign. He retired as Superintendent of Plant Hagood for South Carolina Electric & Gas. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Roberta Albers of Huger, SC; son, George Daniel Albers (Sandra) of James Island, SC; three daughters, Sharon Albers Cahill (Bill), Nelma Albers Taylor (Gene) and Sheree Albers Woodbury (Allen) all of Huger, SC; grandchildren, Stephanie Kelly (Timmy), Kim Albers, Christopher Cahill (Debbie), Christy Cahill Belt (Brandon), Ryan Taylor (Kylie), Adam Taylor (Eleanor), Daniel LeCroy (Erin), Brockinton LeCroy, Noah McDaniel, Hannah McDaniel, and Virgil M. Albers, III; great grandchildren, Tanner Kelly, Shae Kelly, Carter Kelly, Lauren Cahill, Owen Cahill, Colby Belt, Morgan Belt, Mason Taylor, Audrey Taylor, Easton Taylor, Addison LeCroy, Ava LeCroy, William LeCroy, Breanne Albers and Chance Albers; step-children, Kitty and John Austin, their two children and two grandchildren; Susan and Timmy Fryar, their two children and one grandchild; and Margaret and Joe De Jericho, their three children and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Albers and a son, Virgil Martin Albers, Jr..
