Virgie Crosby Simmons, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Harold Simmons died Tuesday, August 1, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 in the First Baptist Church of Charleston, 61 Church Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Virgie was born February 10, 1925 in Ridgeland, South Carolina, daughter of the late Willie Crosby and Lillie Smith Crosby. She was a former employee of the Charleston Naval Shipyard and a member of the South Windermere Garden Club since 1961. Virgie was also a life member of the National Garden Club of SC.
She is survived by her son, David A. Simmons (Elizabeth) of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Vicki Simmons Doyle (Mike) of Sarasota, FL and JoAnne Simmons Glen (Mikel) of Charleston, SC; sister, Evelyn Crosby Gramling of Orangeburg, SC; brother, J.R. Crosby of St. George, SC; nine grandchildren: Caitlin Doyle Alessandro (Danny), McKenzie Doyle (Jimmy Brennick), Shannon Doyle, Shawn Glen, Travis Glen (Emily), Ashley Glen Campbell (Michael), Lizzy Simmons, Drew Simmons and Francis Simmons; great-granddaughter, Hailey Campbell; and two great-grandsons: Oliver Campbell and Evan Diamond. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold Brian Simmons and daughter, Susan Carter Simmons.
