Vesta Newell Woodfield, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of George "Woody" Woodfield entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 17, 2022. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 in Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street at 11:00 a.m.  Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.  

Vesta was born September 28, 1933 in Hemingway, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Marion Newell and Tulah Hughes Newell.  She was a graduate of Palmer College and a retired legal secretary. Vesta was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for over 65 years.

She is survived by her three children: John Emory Woodfield of Charleston, SC, Linda Woodfield Gerhart (Jay) of Simpsonville, SC and Lisa Woodfield Cassidy (David); five sisters: Mary Coughlin of St. Augstine, FL, Wilma Jackson of Summerville, SC, Norma Peterson of Ft. Worth, TX, Talou Altman of Hemingway, SC and Genevieve Owens of Sumter, SC; three grandsons: Michael "Mike" Gerhart, Kenneth George Gerhart and Andrew Cassidy; and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Vesta was predeceased by three siblings: John M. Newell, Jr., Beverly Ann N. Boswell and Juanita N. Maranville.
