Vernelle "Nellie" C. Benton, 71, of Ladson, South Carolina, wife of Roy Allen Benton, Sr., died Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr, 2180 Greenridge Road, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Bedon Baptist Churchyard at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie was born June 2, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Covington and the late Francis Marion Wilder Covington. She was a homemaker who raised a beautiful family.

In addition to her husband, Roy, she is survived by her children, Allen and Julie Benton, Sharon and David Kerr, Ben and Tori Benton; her eight grandchildren, Alaina, Amy, Jacob, Joshua, Sarah, Lydia, Shelby, and Caleb; her sisters, Easter Parish (Harold) and Cathy Dolly (Donnie); brothers, Herbert Covington (Margaret) and Kenneth Covington (Peggy); brother-in-law, Bobby Iler; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Siebert (Bill) and Iris Iler.
