Vernell Herndon Sedgwick, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Ramon Eugene "Gene" Sedgwick entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 27, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday December 30, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sedgwick was born January 26, 1928 in Bamberg, SC, daughter of the late Henry Clinton Herndon and Maybell Crider Herndon. She was a graduate of Winthrop University. She retired from the Charleston County School District as an Elementary Teacher and spent her later years helping her son Ray at the Canal Lakes Fish Camp in Cross, where she was fondly known by all as the "Warden." She enjoyed spending time outdoors with her family.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, "Granny" and "Great Granny". She is survived by her daughter, April Sedgwick Green of Charleston, SC; son, Ray E. Sedgwick (Sherrie) of Cross, SC; two grandchildren, Courtney Rouse (Eric) of Fort Mill, and Mac Stephens (Jennifer) of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Aubrey Rouse; brother, James Allen Herndon of Lancaster, SC; sister, Myra Herndon McElvaney (Cliff) of Woodstock, GA.
