Vera Louise Dukes Widner, 82, wife of the late Robert Allen Widner of Isle of Palms, SC passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. The relatives and friends of Vera Widner are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Friday, July 23, 2010 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Widner was born August 21, 1927 in Charleston County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Thomas Dukes, Sr. and Lottie Mae Hilton Dukes. She was a high school graduate and worked as a cashier at the Isle of Palms Red & White as well as the Piggly Wiggly and Colonial Food Stores. She was a member of Isle of Palms Baptist Church and was a former member of the choir. She was a former member of the Charleston Opera Company. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Mitchum and her husband, John of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Yvonne Suzanne Hawk and her husband, Alan of Goose Creek, SC, Sharon Jean Carter and her husband, Michael of Moncks Corner, SC and Karen Ann Yates and her husband, John of Nashville, TN; her sister, Marjorie Dukes Martin and her husband, Lonnie of North Charleston, SC; her sister-in-law, Shirley Dukes of North Charleston; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by two of her sons, Wayne Allen Widner and Stephen Paul Widner.
