Vera Carroll Shealey, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of John Walton Shealey, entered into eternal rest Monday, January 28, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 1, 2013, in the Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy. at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery . The family will receive friends Friday at Ashley River Baptist Church from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Arrangements made by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
Vera was born July 7, 1928, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Ervin LaRoche Carroll and Nettie Muckenfuss Carroll. She was a graduate of St. Paul's High School of Yonges Island, SC, and attended Rice Business College, Charleston, SC. She taught piano in the studio of her home 39 years since November of 1961 and presented her students yearly in recitals at the First Baptist Church of Charleston. Vera volunteered at Roper Hospital since June 4, 1974, for 35 years where she also served two decades as a chapel service minister. She was a current member of Ashley River Baptist Church, a former member of Citadel Square Baptist Church and The First Baptist Church in Charleston since 1946. She served the church for 24 years in numerous positions as a Sunday School teacher, Children's Division coordinator, and dedicated her time working with Girls Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School, and Visitation ministries.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, she is survived by her sons: John "Randall" Shealey and Walton "Dwayne" Shealey both of Charleston, SC; brother, G. L. Carroll of Ravenel, SC; sister, Brenda Mott of Clayton, GA; and a grandson, Samuel Hanson Shealey of Charleston, SC.
