Valda Wensel "Catfish" Garner, 88, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Judith W. Garner died Tuesday, May 26, 2015. His funeral service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 2:00 pm. Interment with military honors will be held in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel.
Born January 16, 1927 in Sandersville, GA, he was the son of the late Valda Glynn Garner and Claudia Corene Mills Garner. He served in the US Navy for more than 20 years and retired from civil service as a pipe fitter in shop 56 at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, sons: Kevin Kuhn, Donald Kuhn, James Garner, daughters: Laurie Ferguson, Valerie Burnham, Veda Courtney, Pam, Gloria and Patsy; sister Claudia Shelton; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Nicky Kuhn and Tommy Garner, daughters: Colleen Garner and Sheila Wilkinson and brother Jack Garner.
