Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026 at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
Tula was born November 11, 1940 and grew up in Stockholm, Sweden. She was fluent in many languages and enjoyed traveling Europe extensively with her family, notably meeting Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. in a swinging 60's cocktail lounge. With an impressive career defined by her unflagging dedication to the goal, Tula served in many positions working for the City of Charleston, including several years as the administrative assistant to Mayor Joseph P. Riley. Through hard work and dedication to the growth and vitality of her beloved community, she ultimately retired from the city's Office of Business Incubation, which she had helped to create, and allowed her to support emerging businesses just as she did LS3P Architects, Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Lowcountry Medical Associates, and the City of Summerville. Those who worked alongside Tula remember her as a dedicated colleague who approached every challenge with intelligence, grace, and a strong sense of purpose. She took pride in her career, and her family and employers took pride in her accomplishments, landing her among the notables of Who's Who in American Business
Tula possessed many passions that brought color and joy into her daily life. Blessed with a green thumb, she enjoyed gardening, nurturing her plants and surroundings with careful attention and pride. Within the walls of her home, Tula found inspiration as well. She was always sewing, making things, learning, and engaging in crafts. She was an exceptionally skilled seamstress who could sew, hem, and alter things for family and friends as well as a professional, and over her lifetime she won awards for and publication of her quilting and cooking recipes, and patterns for crochet, knitting, dressmaking, and more.
Physical activity was another cornerstone of Tula’s life. As an experienced runner, she participated in the Cooper River Bridge Run over twenty times, exemplifying her commitment to health and perseverance. She also loved puzzles, be they crossword, jigsaw, word, or practical, and she typically filled in every crossword correctly, and quickly, with a pen. She was a lifelong avid reader, and a prolific writer dedicated to social and political causes, even making a late-in-life splash when she discovered Twitter.
She is survived by sons, Charles Edward Davis (Ashley) of Summerville, SC and Jon Olof Davis of Charleston, SC; three sisters, Solveig Österlund of Stockholm, Birgit Tammerstrand of Goteborg, Sweden and Berit Tammerstrand of Manila, Philappines; and many loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by; brothers, Ilpo Tammerstrand and Kai Tammerstrand; and sister, Anja Claesson.
Flowers will be accepted.
