Trudy Browning Carnahan

Trudy Browning Carnahan, 91, was elevated to Heaven and into the arms of Jesus on August 25, 2017. Born on February 22, 1926, she was the daughter of Arthur and Iris Yarley Browning, and was the wife of the late Carnie Carnahan. Surviving are a daughter Salette Fulmer Austin and her husband Danny Austin, of Isle of Palms, and a son Quitman Davis "Q.D." Fulmer II and his wife Patty, of Charleston, SC, and two granddaughters, Iris Stapen of Charleston, and Kelsey Olo and her husband Shane of Conway, SC, two great grandsons, Aiden Rylee Olo and Rylee Davis Olo of Conway, SC, and one sister Eloise Browning Gatch of Walterboro, SC.

Trudy graduated from Walterboro High School and attended North Greenville University. She graduated from Winthrop University with a BS degree in Home Economics & Science. Her graduate studies were at Winthrop, The Citadel and the University of South Carolina. She taught 31 years in Elementary and High School. Her teaching included Home Economics at Springfield High School, as well as adult after school classes that included Nutrition, Clothing Construction, Tailoring, Cake Decorating, Furniture Refinishing, Childcare and Development. She also had many Fashion Shows over the years with students modeling the clothes they made in her classes.

Trudy coordinated and directed many weddings over 30 years, many of which were for former students, friends and church members. She was a former member of the Springfield Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and Springfield Garden Club.

After relocating to the Charleston area, she taught Second, Fifth, and Seventh Grades and taught Language Arts at Jennie Moore Elementary in Mount Pleasant. She loved every area of teaching and rarely missed a day from school.

After retirement, she and her husband Carnie enjoyed cruising, traveling in the USA and Canada, and trips abroad. Israel was one of her favorite trips. To walk where Jesus walked was special for her.

Trudy was a member of East Cooper Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was an encourager and prayer warrior, and reached out in prayer to hurting people. She witnessed for the Lord to those God put in her path. Trudy looked forward to Heaven; and now she has moved her permanent residence to Our Father's home there.

A Memorial service will be held for her at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29 at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 until time of the service. Burial will follow the service at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
