Trellis Etta Nettles, aged 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Throughout her life, she embraced her different roles as devoted homemaker and mother.
She was born on July 3, 1940, in Lake City, South Carolina, to the late Louis Hanna and the late Iva Nell Eaddy Hanna, who raised her on a farm in Hemingway SC. She graduated from nearby Indiantown High School in 1959.
Trellis attended Bible college in Tennessee for a year, and soon after made her way down to Charleston where she attended Palmer business school.
Trellis landed her first job out of school as a secretary for the Charleston Police department. This is where she met her to be husband Jamie Nettles, who was a reporter for the local newspaper covering the crime beat.
In 1965 Trellis and Jamie were married and settled in Mt Pleasant before giving birth to their son Shawn in 1970. Soon after they moved to Atlanta, GA for a few years before returning to Charleston permanently.
Trellis was truly one of the sweetest and kindest people you would ever meet. She always had a great positive outlook and concern for others despite some of her physical obstacles. She will always have a huge place in her heart for the SIBC church and all of its members she has grown to know and love over the years. It’s hard to express how much she will be missed, because she was truly a one of kind with compassion, faith and a spirit all her own.
Trellis is survived by her son, Shawn Nettles. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jamie Larue Nettles, Jr., whose memory she cherished throughout her life.
Trellis' Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, starting at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the chapel, providing an opportunity for loved ones to gather and reminisce.
Trellis Etta Nettles will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sullivan's Island Baptist Church, 1753 Central Ave., Sullivan's Island, SC 29482.
