Tommie (Tom) Lee Markham, 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 27, 2023. A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Tommie was born June 17, 1940, in Raleigh, North Carolina, son of the late John Owen Markham and Bertha Meachum Markham. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and earned an Associate Degree in business. Tom had always been a dedicated worker and even started a bicycle paper route business alongside his brothers at a very young age. He spent over 40 years in the car business as a Finance Manager and won several awards for stellar service in the industry. His greatest joy was taking his family on summer cruises. He loved to fish and even enjoyed baking bread for the family business, Ann’s Sourdough Breads, that he and his wife started in 1985. Even though he closed the bakery a couple of years ago, he still kept busy and enjoyed working at Lowe's of Mt. Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Ann Christian Markham. He is survived by his two daughters, Alisha Markham of Simpsonville, SC and Shannin Carr (Rob) of Los Angeles, CA; as well as three beloved grandchildren Hayden and Hartleigh Ackerman, and Reznor Carr. He is also survived by a sister, Marie Swicegood and two brothers, John Markham and Mervin Markham. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Markham.
Tom and Ann both loved animals, most especially cats. At the time of his death, he had two cats named Charlie and Andy that have been lovingly rehomed by Feral Cat Helpers of Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to www.feralcathelpers.com. It is a 501c3 non-profit agency that is located at 1113 Market Center Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
