Tilden James “Jimmy” Doby, Jr., 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Peggy Jean Fleming Doby, entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 22, 2024. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy. at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Ashley River Baptist Church. Inurnment will immediately follow the service at Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Jimmy was born December 14, 1942 in Sumter, South Carolina, son of the late Tilden James Doby, Sr. and the late Willie Leigh Ridgill Doby. Jimmy played football for St. Andrew’s High School and Porter Military Academy and graduated from Porter Military Academy in 1962. He played football for The University of South Carolina for a year and continued his college education at Baptist College and earned a degree in Business Marketing. He worked for Procter & Gamble and retired as a Sales Representative in 1992. Since his retirement he spent his time watching college football, especially the USC Gamecocks, and he loved hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends.
In addition to his wife Peggy, he is survived by daughter, Melissa McKenzie (Forest); two sons, The Honorable Bryan Doby (Anna), Kenneth Doby (Laura); three sisters, JoAnn Doby, Diane Doby, Jean Goodson; grandchildren, James Doby, Kennedy Luna (Garrett), Michalanne Wallace (Rustin), Elizabeth McKenzie; and great grandchildren, Carter Wallace, Everlee Luna and Jack Luna.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law.
Memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
