The funeral service for Thomas Howe Winkleman, that had to be cancelled due to the recent storms, has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 23 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held in Rodenberg Chapel (Franke at Seaside) in Mt. Pleasant.
Thomas Howe Winkleman, 91, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Dolores (Dee) Winkleman died Monday, August 21, 2017. His funeral service will be held at a later date in the Rodenberg Chapel (Franke at Seaside), 1885 Rifle Range Road. Interment will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Thomas was born April 27, 1926 in Whitewater, Wisconsin, son of the late Fred C. Winkleman and the late Helen Howe Winkleman. He graduated St. John's Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin and received his Engineering degree from Iowa State University. His dad and uncle owned Union Dairies in Whitewater where he grew up. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Tom had a passion for flying and thus joined the U.S. Navy C-12 program in 1944. The war was coming to an end before he completed pilot training. Later in life, however he earned his pilot's license and flew his own plane. Tom was also an avid golfer. Most of his career was as V-P/ Sales Engineering at Mojonnier Brothers.Thomas was also a member of Palmetto Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dolores Winkleman of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Cynthia Schurtz (David) of Baltimore, MD; son, David F. Winkleman (Debbie) of Westmont, IL; grandchildren, Ryan Schurtz (Carrie), Anneliese Schurtz, and Sunny and Casey Winkleman; three great-grandchildren Jack, Clara and Luke Schurtz; stepchildren, Christi McElveen Roe of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Greg Zornes (Trula) of Dunedin, FL; step-grandchildren, Marianna McElveen, Charlie Roe, Robert Roe, and Ryan, Kyle and Tyler Zornes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 47 years, Margaret McCulloch Winkleman and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Harry Franke.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
