On Saturday, January 26, 2019, Thomas Trainer died peacefully at the age of 72.
His funeral service will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 in St. Michael's Anglican Church, 71 Broad Street at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their home immediately following the burial. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Tom was born on December 17, 1946 in Hamilton, Scotland. He graduated from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland. He was a member of St. Michael's Anglican Church. Tom was a well-recognized and much awarded leader in the business technology field, and throughout his 40-year career served as a member of the executive committees of such companies as CitiGroup, Eli Lilly & Company, Reebok, Joseph E. Seagram, and PepsiCo. Tom received the Albert Einstein Award for career achievement in Information Technology and he also received Information Week Magazine's CIO of the Year Award among other notable achievements throughout his lifetime. He led conferences all over the world, often serving as the keynote speaker.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne Barnwell Hughes Trainer; his daughters: Andrea Trainer Muncy (C.S.) of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Trainer Famularo (Brad) of Cromwell, CT, and Katherine Trainer Laudano (Matt) of Guilford, CT.; his sisters: Gerardette McGuire (Ron) of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Catherine Wedlock (Gerry) of Hamilton, Scotland, Marcella McFall (John) of Blantyre, Scotland, and Rosemary Stephens (Eddie) of Bonnybridge, Scotland; his stepdaughters, Catherine (Daisy) Barnwell Leath of Atlanta, Zoë Ravenel Leath Stephens (Brys) of Charleston; Eugenia Tapscott Leath Burtschy (Larry) of Charleston, and Susanne Mazÿck Leath Wright (Matthew) of Houston; and eight step-grandchildren.
