Thomas "Tommy" Charles Hayes, 89, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014. The relatives and friends of Tommy Hayes are invited to attend his Funeral Service Thursday, June 12, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday morning June 12, 2014 in Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel from 10:00 am until time of the service.

Tommy was born on April 20, 1925 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William Francis Hayes and the late Lottie Davis Hayes. He graduated from The Citadel in 1950 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was retired from the United States Government as a physicist.

He is survived by a sister, Helen Hayes of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a brother, Harry Hayes and his wife, Louise, of Virginia; two nephews, Conrad Whitney of Mount Pleasant, SC and Courtney Whitney of Huger, SC; two nieces, Judith Baldwin of Johns Island, SC and Mary Curnett of Summerville, SC. He also has two nephews surviving in Virginia and a niece in Texas, Washington State and West Virginia. He will be greatly missed by his caregiver, Ethel D. Manigault.
