Thomas Farmer Taylor

Thomas Farmer Taylor, 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Isabel Cristina DaMesquita Taylor, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 7, 2024. His Celebration of Life will be held on March 16, 2024, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street, at 2 PM. Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant.

Tom was born on March 29, 1939, in Knoxville, Tennessee, son of the late Amos Hill Taylor and the late Gladys Rebecca Farmer Taylor. Tom served as the captain of the Lakeland High School Golf Team. He was the first recipient of the Arnold Palmer Scholarship at Wake Forest University and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. Tom established himself as a stockbroker with Reynold’s Company before being recruited and hired as the National Sales Manager by Atotech, a leading specialty chemicals company, and retired in 1997. He moved to Mt. Pleasant and worked with Chrome Deposit Corporation until his 2nd retirement in 2005. Driven by his adventurous spirit, and love of the ocean, after serving in the Coast Guard and receiving his Captains License, Tom embarked on a sailing odyssey along the east coast of North and South America from 1974 through 1986. When not spending time with his family, he could certainly be found on the golf course, collecting wins: 1999 Runner-Up - Dunes West Golf Club Championship, and 1st Place in 2003 and 2004, along with the 2003 SC Senior Men’s Championship. Tom returned to the bridge table to renew his dedication to the game, joining the Greater Charleston Duplicate Bridge Club. His competitive spirit earned him accolades for his achievements, notably in the 2009 Swamp Fox Tournament and in 2013, receiving his Life Master Certificate & Bronze Life Master Certificate in recognition of outstanding achievement in Bridge competition. Not only will he be remembered for his skills on the green and with a deck of cards, but also as a man of faith as a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Isabel; two daughters, Judge Margaret Taylor and Courtney Hoening (Eric), all of Tampa, FL; and grandchildren, Margaret (Meg) Courtney and William Hoening. In addition to his loving family, Tom leaves behind his cherished canine companions, Shiloh and Stoli, who provided him with joy and unwavering companionship throughout his last years. Bosco & Logan, whose loyalty Tom cherished, eagerly await their joyful reunion with him.

Memorials may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
