Thomas J. Spitznas

Thomas J. Spitznas, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Carol Spitznas, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

Tom was born July 18, 1934 in Erie, Pennsylvania, son of the late Christian Thomas Spitznas and the late Lillian Gannon Spitznas. He graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, Pennsylvania and Penn State, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was an assistant professor at Western Reserve University while working on his Ph.D. in Economics. Tom was an economist with Chemical Bank in New York, and later opened his economic consulting firm. He was frequently quoted in local and regional papers. Tom was passionate about musical theater, opera, and classical music, and was certainly an old movie buff. At an early age, Tom was fascinated with magic and was a member of the Magician's League in Erie. Later, he was known for performing magic tricks for his children and grandchildren.

He was a long time member and active supporter of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant.

In addition to his wife, Carol, is survived by his three daughters, Catherine McAndrews (B.J.), Sonya Spitznas, and Laura Phillips (Brent); grandchildren, Evan, Meredith, and Tyler McAndrews, and Kayla and Tessa Phillips; his sister, Mary Gabriella Crumlish; and numerous nieces and nephews.
