Thomas Allen Sloggett, 91 yrs old, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed from this life into the loving hands of God on June 30, 2024.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Sloggett and (Ruth Morrissey) and step-mother, Leona Sloggett of Bay City, MI. Thomas is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Ellen Sloggett (Barchak); son, Todd Sloggett of Sanford, MI; daughter, MaryEllen Urig of Awendaw, SC; sisters, Janet Schnell of Bay City, MI, Susan Hodder of Grayling, MI, and Grace Stiegemeyer of Kalamazoo, MI; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews..
Tom was born September 3, 1932, in Bay City , Michigan, and graduated from Handy High School. Tom and Ruth were married at Saint Helen’s (Christ the Good Shepherd Parish) in Saginaw, MI on November 20, 1954. Tom worked at the Dow Chemical Company for 37 years both in Midland, MI and Strongsville, OH and retired while in Ohio as a Senior Computer Data Systems Architect. Tom had multiple retirement activities including being a custom furniture maker for family and friends, vegetable gardener, Lake Erie walleye fisherman, and avid member of the Cleveland Hiking club. Tom was a devout Catholic Christian and served the St. Richard and St. Clarence Catholic Churches in North Olmsted, OH, where he was on parish council or helping with special service projects and events at the church. After Tom and Ruth relocated to Mt Pleasant, SC, in 1995, Tom continued custom wood working, fishing-shrimping-oystering, gardening and cheering for his grandchildren in sporting activities. Tom also volunteered as a Historical Charleston Street Marshal, meal packer for the Meals on Wheels program and achieved service ranking of 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with local council at Stella Maris, St. Benedict and Christ our King Catholic Churches. Tom hand crafted a large wooden cross that has been used by the Knights of Columbus local council for special processions.
The family appreciates the loving care given to Tom at the Agape Hospice house, Summerville, SC, to help him pass peacefully from this life. Donations accepted for Knights of Columbus, Council 9475 via website at https://www.kofc9475.org/
The family will receive friends in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt Pleasant, SC on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm where the rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle St., Sullivan's Island, SC on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 11:00 am. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC.
