Thomas Francis Simmonite, Jr., 74, of Sullivan's Island, SC, husband of Elizabeth M. Tezza died Wednesday, February 1, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, February 5, 2017, in The Church of The Holy Cross, 2520 Middle Street, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Great Hall. Interment will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Thomas was born January 2, 1943 in Fort Benning, Georgia, son of the late Thomas F. Simmonite, Sr. and Margaret Skinner Simmonite. He graduated from St. Andrews High School and attended Erskine College. Thomas served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. Thomas was a Vocational Deacon and member of The Church of The Holy Cross, a former member of the Exchange Club of Charleston, member and past president of the East Cooper Kiwanis Club, and was active in Cursillo.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Simmonite of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister, Suzanne S. Guerin of Ackworth, GA; nieces: Kimberly Martin and Margaret Guerin; and nephew, Frank Guerin. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas F. "Tommy" Simmonite III.
