Thomas Isaac "Pompi" Edwards of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, loving husband of Kathyrn Thornley Edwards, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 4, 2014. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
Thomas was born September 22, 1937 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Walter Artie Edwards and Clarice Rantin Edwards. He was drafted into the Marines after graduating from Charleston High School. When he finished his military service, he and Kathryn were married. Thomas worked for SCE&G until he retired as Vice President of Fossil Fuel Operations. He was very well respected among his peers in the industry. After retiring, he returned to work with Southeastern Fly Ash, Inc. as a consultant. He was a member of The Elks Club, The Charleston Rifle Club, the Berkley Country Club and Henry's Hunt Club. Thomas was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. As long as he was outside, he was enjoying himself. He was especially fond of having a good ole fish fry with all of his friends and family. Another one of his favorite activities was his yearly visit to the Heritage Golf Tournament with many of his closest friends. Just a couple of weeks ago, he had the pleasure of attending. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Melissa Dawn Edwards; his sons: Bernard Leroy (Lee) Edwards and his wife True of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Ronald Joseph (Ronnie) Edwards of Mt. Pleasant, SC and daughter-in-law, Monica Edwards of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his brothers, Larry R. Edwards and his wife Betty of Memphis, TN; his sister, Vermell E. Brown of Goose Creek, SC; his grandchildren: Nat, Kathryn, and Maggie Edwards; Brandon and Madison Gompert; Christy Keith and Heather Sherrill and great grandchildren: Carley, Sawyer, and Allie. He was preceded in death by his son Timothy Allen (Timmy) Edwards.
