Thomas Winn "Buddy" Phillips, 69, of North Charleston, SC, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, in a local hospital.
Born August 4, 1941 in Flora, Mississippi, he was the youngest of four children born to Benjamin W. Phillips and Pearlee Wade Phillips.
Thomas was a veteran of the US Air Force after which he spent 38 years working as a foreman within the Module Maintenance Facility, Charleston Naval Shipyard before retiring in 1999. Other than spending time with his family he enjoyed being outside in his vegetable and rose gardens.
Thomas is survived by his two sons: James T. Phillips and Kevin D. Phillips both of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Melissa "Misty" Phillips of Sapulpa, OK; a brother, Benjamin L. "Mickey" Phillips and his wife Faye of Flora, MS; two sisters: Margaret P. Godbold of Raymond, MS and Janie P. "Doris" Gabany of Hampton, VA; three grandchildren: Sgt. Johnathon Rhett Winn Hair, USMC, Amber Nicole Pace and Justin Jordan Phillips and former spouse Margaret Cate of North Charleston, SC.
The funeral service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel Monday, July 18, 2011 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM.
