Thomas "Tom" Walton Patton, Sr., 94, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Helen Catherine Bryan Patton passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016 in the Church of The Holy Cross, 2520 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the service. Interment will be Monday, April 11 at 1:00 pm in Jacksonville, NC. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. Tom was born May 4, 1921 in Asheville, North Carolina, to Francis McLeod Patton, Sr. and Isabel Ashby Brumby Patton, and grew up on his family's farm in "Patton Cove". He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II serving in North Africa, Italy and Austria. He graduated from Christ School and NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and worked for International Paper Company and George C. Brown Cedar Company.
Tom lived in Jacksonville, NC from 1951 to 1967 where he met and married his wife. In Jacksonville he was a member of the Saint Anne's Episcopal Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.
He lived in Union, SC from 1973 to 2008 and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. Tom was a member of the church's Vestry and served as Junior and Senior Warden.
He is survived by his daughter, Helen Diane Patton of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Thomas "Tom" Walton Patton, Jr. and his wife Sara, of Columbia, SC; two granddaughters, Catherine Higginbotham and her husband, Danny, and Rebecca Cumbee and her husband, Lee, and great grandchild, Logan Patton Higginbotham. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters, Laura Patton and Martha Patton Hairston, and brother, Francis McLeod Patton, Jr.
