The oldest of five children born to Tom and Betty (Elizabeth Norcross) Myers, Tom was a loving and generous man throughout his life and is mourned by many.
He was born on November 25, 1940, at Roper Hospital and attended The Gaud School in Charleston and Phillips Academy (Andover), graduated from The University of the South (Sewanee) in 1962 and Harvard Business School in 1964.
Tom worked on Wall Street for 13 years, returned to his beloved Charleston in 1977 and founded Disher, Hamrick and Myers with Brownie Hamrick and Johnny Disher. After many years in real estate, he created We Are Family, in 1993, to serve the individuals, families and loved ones of the gay community. Prior to that Tom helped start Charleston Interfaith Crisis Ministries in 1984 and, the next year, flew to Ethiopia as part of the Charleston Flight of Mercy to deliver critical aid to a starving country. For the last 14 years, Tom owned and operated VoDon custom framing with his wife, Debra. Tom sat on the board at Bishop Gadsden several times and was a member of the St. Cecilia Society, St. Andrew's Society, the Charleston Club and many others. Tom attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
He was physically active all his life, a passionate runner from his twenties, and reached his physical peak, literally, when he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. He learned to dive in the murky Charleston waters and the clearer glory of the Caribbean. He learned to sky dive and did, without a scratch.
Tom is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 24 years, Debra Uricchio Myers; along with his son, Thomas, and his daughter, Zoe; step-daughter, Paulann Rhodes and four grandchildren. He loved and supported them unconditionally and was proud of all they achieved. Other survivors include his stepmother, Jeanne; his sisters: Mary, Ellen and Posey; and their husbands and children; his sons-in-law, Vincent Gibiat and Nicklaus Rhodes; and his ex-wife, Maureen.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Betsy, and a grandson, Blaze.
