Thomas Burton Long, Sr., 90, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband for 68 years of Aileen Mercer Long died Sunday, August 19, 2012. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, 2105 Cosgrove Avenue at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road where a Masonic service will be held at 7:00 pm.Thomas was born April 25, 1922 in Eutawville, South Carolina, son of the late John Douglas Long Jr.and the late Julia Rebecca Thomas . Prior to joining the CNSY he was a member of CCC in California and was later a retired supervisor with the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Planning and Estimating. Mr. Long was a past president of The United Association of Journeyman and Apprentice of the Piping Industry Post #470, a Life member of Hammerton Masonic Lodge #332, past Commander of American Legion Post #59, a member of American Legion Post #166, past president of NARFE, a member of TPA Post DChapter, past president of North Charleston Senior Citizens, and past president of Lutheran Men at Advent Lutheran Church.He is survived by his wife, Aileen Long of North Charleston, SC, daughter and son-in-Law, Laura L. (Aaron) Gehm of Chesapeake, VA, son and daughter-in-law, Thomas B. (Ann) Long Jr. of N. Charleston, SC, son, Larry Keith Long of Charleston, SC, brother, Lewis Pickett Long of Concord, CA, brother, Robert C. Long, of North Charleston, SC, granddaughter, Michelle Long of N. Charleston, SC, grandson, Stephen Long of Charleston, SC. Mr. Long is predeacesed by five brothers and a sister: Earl Long, Kenneth Long, Francis Long, John D.
