Thomas Michael Ennist, of Awendaw SC died Thursday April 12 while working at sea. Tom, born July 16, 1963 in Tampa, FL, was the husband of Martha Krauss (Ennist) and loving father of Fiona and Aidan. A Funeral Mass will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island, SC, Friday, April 20th at 12:00 pm. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
He was the son of the late Cornelius Clifford and Alice Ann Ennist of Tampa and is survived by two sisters and one brother: Grace Witt of Liberty, MO, Elizabeth Rogers of Trinity, TX and Nicholas Ennist of Independence, MO.
Tom graduated in 1985 from the US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY and served as an Ensign, Special Duty (Engineering) in the US Navy Reserve. After graduating from USMMA, he lived in Washington, DC and worked for the Navy as a civil engineer. He then was transferred to CNSY where he was an engineer on the NPTU project. He sailed aboard the Liberty Sea during Operation Desert Storm. Tom was employed by Maersk Lines Limited, as a Chief Engineer. Tom was a consummate engineer. There was nothing he could not fix, and his shipmates were always pleased to sail with him for he was a wiz at repairing the ships' elevators. He was a prolific reader and an avid Gamecocks fan. Tom loved sailing, boating and spending time with his family in Cape Romain.
