Thomas Roy Ellenberger

April 27, 1920 — February 27, 2017

Thomas Roy Ellenberger, 96, of Charleston, SC, widower of Jeanne W. Ellenberger, entered into eternal rest Monday, February 27, 2017. His funeral service will be held at the graveside Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Roy was born April 27, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Glenshaw, PA for 92 years. He was the son of the late E. Roy Ellenberger and Pearl Fitzsimmons Ellenberger. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a retired insurance agent for Prudential Insurance. Roy was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Harbor View Presbyterian Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen E. Lassiter (Tom) of Charleston; two sons, Thomas C. Ellenberger (Renee') of Columbia, SC, and Timothy R. Ellenberger (Camellia) of Brevard, NC; ten grandchildren: Cherie Wash (Tim), David Lassiter (Michelle), Tim Ellenberger, Mark Ellenberger (Missy), Paige Hughes (Gregg), Brooke Ellenberger, Joe Ellenberger (Charisse), Tom Ellenberger (Mariah), Melissa Sanderson (Paul), and Ben Story (Betsy); and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Roy's caregivers: Martha Goss, Edith Goss and Barbara Young, and the caring staff at NHC.
