Thomas Sinkler Deas

Thomas “Tom” Sinkler Deas, 63, of Mount Pleasant, SC, husband of Donna Mims Deas entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 25, 2022. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6th, 2022 at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

Tom was born June 25, 1959, in Montgomery, Alabama, son of the late Lt. Col. John Deas and the late Constance Dresser Deas. He spent his early childhood years living on Military Bases around the world, never able to call one place home. The Lowcountry was Tom’s father’s childhood home, so before he finished high school, the family moved to Mount Pleasant, SC to put down Southern roots. Tom met the love of his life, Donna, at Wando High School their senior year. The two became inseparable, and Tom finally had a place to call home, with her.

The Lowcountry was a natural fit for Tom, as he had always been drawn to the water. An avid boater, shrimper and fisherman, Tom knew the local creeks, fishing holes, and oyster beds. He was a member of the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club “Goldbug”, an organization he loved. Tom was a Clerk Checker with the International Longshoreman’s Association, Local 1771, a career he treasured, working with colleagues he admired on the beautiful waterfront. He enjoyed vacationing in Key West, FL, taking in the sites and characters.

He also cherished spending time in Hendersonville, NC and was an honorary member and delegate of Camp Harmon, volunteering countless hours to preserve the Club’s mountain property. Tom had a passion for all types of music and spent many a night swaying to live tunes next to his little girl, Tabatha. He always had a playlist ready, whether for a road or boat trip, an evening camping under the stars, or time just chilling out in his work shed. Tom was known for his sense of humor, bold infectious laugh, ability to tell a story, and being the Grand Poopaw to his shining light, BB.

Always offering a helping hand, Tom never said “no” and relentlessly and unconditionally loved and supported his family and friends.  He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 39 years, Donna; his daughter Tabatha Deas Allen and her husband Stuart Christopher Allen; granddaughter Blythe Allen; father-in-law Joe Mims; Brother in-law and Sister in-law Raymond and Tammy Simpson, all of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister, Elizabeth “Lisa” Allison Deas of Monterey, CA; brother John Alston Deas of Good Hope, GA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
