Theodore "Ted" W. Vliet, Jr, 58, of Mount Pleasant, SC died at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, February 22, 2016. Ted was born October 4, 1957 in Ashtabula, Ohio to the late Theodore W. Vliet, Sr. and Carolyn J. Vliet. His formative years were spent in Maryland before relocating to the Isle of Palms with his family when he was a teenager.
Ted was an extremely dedicated husband and father. He was known for putting others before himself. His family was definitely his priority. When it was announced, in the early 1990's, that his employer, the Charleston Naval Shipyard, would be closing, he quickly sought other employment to take care of his growing family. After having worked for Piggly Wiggly prior to the shipyard, he returned to the grocery business setting goals for himself to advance. Eventually, he was promoted to the IT Department which suited him well as he was fascinated and gifted with computers long before computers were commonplace. To better himself and his family, Ted worked his way through college taking evening classes and graduated from Southern Wesleyan University.
After many years at The Pig, he changed jobs to work for SAIC and then most recently for Scientific Research Corporation as a Network Administrator. He was a lifelong learner frequently studying for more advanced Information Technology certifications. In addition to his family and computers, Ted enjoyed fishing, walking in the woods, working in his garage, gardening and backyard chickens.
Ted was a member of Seacoast Church and a former Volunteer Juvenile Arbitrator.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Christi L. Vliet, of Mount Pleasant, SC, sons Matthew P. Vliet of North Charleston, SC , David T.
