Theodora "Dora" Pillary Arthur

Theodora Pillary Arthur, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina died Tuesday, January 17, 2017. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Avenue. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with a Trisagion prayers at 7:00 pm.

Dora was born August 18, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of the late Thomas John Pillary and the late Alexandra Sturgis Pillary. She moved to Massachusetts after she was married on July 2, 1950, and that is where she raised her family. Dora was a Teachers Aid for over 24 years. She moved to Charleston in 1997, along with her daughter. She enjoyed cooking, homemaking, and volunteering at Jennie Moore Elementary School in Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Arthur Sherman M.D. and her partner, Alice A. Cagnina of Mt. Pleasant, SC and son, Robert Thomas Arthur and his wife, Patricia, of Salisbury, NC; one sister-in-law, Anna Pillary of Worcester, MA and one nephew, Thomas Pillary of Worcester, MA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas John Arthur; two brothers, Lazarus "Larry" Pillary and Constantine "Billy" Pillary; two sisters, Mary Pillary and Helen Pillary and sister-in-law, Eva Pillary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to the church in her honor.
