Thelma Melton Fairbairn, 95, of Johns Island, South Carolina, widow of Archibald B. Fairbairn, Jr. entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 11, 2015. Her Graveside Service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 in Unitarian Church of Charleston Churchyard, 4 Archdale Street at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow immediately in Gage Hall. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Thelma was born October 4, 1920 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Harry Eugene Melton and Kathryn Ervin Melton. She was a graduate of Memminger High School. She was a docent for the Charleston Museum for over 20 years and an active volunteer for the Charleston Symphony.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Beth F. Valentine (Graham) of Johns Island, SC and Jan Melton of Newnan, GA; son, G. Scott Fairbairn (Mary) of North Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Terry (David), Jennifer, Michael, Scott, and Katherine (Johnny); three great grandchildren, Tanner, Shelby, and Luke; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Kathryn Ferry, Harry Melton, Jr., and Billie Hall; and her great granddaughter, Rory Brown.
