Teresa "Tess" Munzenmaier

The family of Teresa “Tess” Munzenmaier of Walterboro, SC is saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, August 7th, 2022 at the age of 67.

Tess was born on November 4, 1954 in Charleston, SC to Anthony and Myrtle (Jennings) Romanus.  

Tess was a devoted wife and mother. She spent many years working in child care. In the late 80’s, Tess worked at North Charleston Elementary, and later for many years she ran her own home daycare. Tess loved taking trips to the beach and mountains. Tess grew up going to Folly Beach and would later spend many summers with her family there. The mountains in North Carolina was another favorite place Tess loved to spend time.  

She is preceded in death by her father, Anthony Romanus, and her first husband of 38 years,  Michael E. Surprenant. 

She married Henry “Hal” Munzenmaier on February 14th, 2012, he survives. 

Tess is also survived by her mother, Myrtle Romanus, her three children, Jason (Lil) Surprenant, Michael Surprenant, Tracy (Maciek) Nurzynski, her two stepdaughters, Tracy (Dale) McMillan, Kerrie (Chuck) Jones, her five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her siblings Karen Peek, Julia Romanus, Toni (James) Romanus, Terry Romanus and Nita (Jose) Gilbert and many nieces and nephews and friends. 

Services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, 4:00 pm at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
