Ted "Pop Pop" Bernados, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, embarked on his grandest adventure yet on June 18, 2024. Born to change the world on February 7, 1936, in Tanay Rizal, Philippines, Ted was renowned for his larger-than-life personality and his supernatural ability to fill every room with laughter, love, and the occasional dance move.
After Ted served over 25 years in the US Navy, he enjoyed an amazing career at Lockheed Missile and Space Company. Not one capable of “retiring”, he and his beloved Jessie turned their talents to Bernados Arts and Crafts, traveling and charming the Eastern Seaboard with their one-of-a-kind creations.
Ted's church communities at Orange Grove Church of God of Prophecy and Coastal Community Church knew him as a man whose faith was as strong as his coffee - which is to say, unshakable. When he wasn’t lifting spirits, you could find Ted reeling in a catch on the water, engaging in competitive wordplay with a Scrabble board, or creating masterpieces in his workshop. He was a renaissance man who could out-fish, out-paint, and out-dance anyone half his age, and he did it all with a smile that could light up the Charleston skyline. He did it his way.
Survived by his children: Prisca Bernados Denton, and her husband Jeff, Kathy Bernados Goerdt, and her husband Jeff (Ted's best friend), and son Teo-Anthony (Tony) Bernados and his wife Donna; his “girl,” Jean Littlejohn; his grandchildren: Teodulo Michael Dugger (Jackie), Jennifer Battaglia (Nick), Jessica Dubin (Ben), Katrina Blase (Anthony), Madison Denton Shevchenko (Igor), Mahli Paige Denton, Ethan Ascher Bernados, Robert Gavin Banks Bernados, and William J Beckham Bernados; siblings: Genoveva Amonoy, Clementia Laderera, Teodulo "Tel" Bernados, Francisco Bernados, Salvadore "Bhuds" Bernados, Allen Bernados, Diego Bernados, Myla Bernados Romero, and David Bernados;12 great-grandchildren and a troupe of loving family members and a fan club of friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jessica Louise Bernados (Jessie) and son Theodore Albert Bernados (Taber). Ted leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and the best hand-crafted rocking horses you've ever seen.
Before he set sail into the sunset, Ted made sure to flirt with every beautiful nurse, play with his loyal canine sidekick, Benji, and tell a story or two about the good ol' days. He lived his life as he did everything - with gusto and a flair for the dramatic.
Join us for a send-off that Ted would approve of - one with laughter, memories, music, and perhaps a jig or two. The celebration will take place at Coastal Community Church, with a visitation starting at high noon, followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm sharp on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Ted’s final earthly curtain call and burial will be held at 3:00pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens. For those who can't join in person, tune in to the livestream at coastalcommchurch.online.church and raise a toast to the man who never simply 'pass away' but rather 'make an exit.'
J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, equipped with the same zest for life as Ted, is orchestrating the festivities. So, come one, come all, and let's give Ted the farewell that a man of his charisma deserves!
