Born on May 30, 1936, Sylvia Eleanor Craver Harvey, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, July 18, 2026, following a swift decline in health. As always, Sibby was surrounded by the love of family and friends. Only last fall, Sibby was participating in water aerobics. In May, her children, grands and great-grands came as far away as California, Colorado, New York and Florida to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Always a people person, Sibby loved everyone. Throughout her life, Sibby gathered friends like most people gather flowers on a spring day. Until her recent illness, Sibby loved bridge, travel, dancing, playing with her great grands, gardening, and celebrating events big and small with family and friends, including her special group, “The Porch Ladies.” She really enjoyed her grands and great-grands, who all adored their “Mimi.” Being a Mimi was most definitely Sibby’s favorite role in life.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, Sibby spent her childhood in Washington, DC, and then moved to Charleston in her teen years. She graduated from Charleston High School, 1954, and The College of Charleston, 1958. Sibby married her dear husband Charlie Harvey at First Scots Presbyterian Church on Aug 8, 1958. As an Air Force wife, Sibby enjoyed raising her family, meeting new people, traveling extensively and entertaining frequently. Sibby could put together a dinner party for twelve in an afternoon. Being spontaneous and gracious were her trademarks.

Always up for an adventure, Sibby, along with her husband Charlie, traveled all over the world; cheered the CofC Cougars since college; tailgated at Citadel and Clemson football games for decades; earned her scuba diving certification at 57 years; enjoyed The Heritage Golf Tournament since its inception in 1969; and attended all variety of sporting events to see the grands in action.

Sibby taught school off and on depending on where her husband was stationed. When Charlie took on corporate life in 1976, Sibby adapted quickly to living next door to her brother Hope and his family at Lake Murray.

While living in Irmo, Sibby taught at Lexington High School for a few years. Then she became a realtor, as well as a travel agent. But her true passion was serving her alma mater, The College of Charleston. Sibby was appointed by Governor Campbell to The College of Charleston’s Board of Trustees, 1988-1999 where she served as Secretary and became Trustee Emerita in 2004. Always active with the CofC Alumni Association, Sibby was President(1989) and received the Alumni Award of Honor (2015). In 2025, Sibby was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from The College of Charleston. She was tickled pink and jokingly asked her grands to call her “Dr. Mimi.”

Another educational contribution in recent history was when Sibby served as Chairman of the Charleston School of Law Foundation for 3 years as the Foundation began to develop the Law School into becoming a non profit.

Always one to be involved in her church wherever they lived, Sibby and Charlie were active at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Irmo for 20 years. When they moved to Seabrook Island at Charlie’s retirement they joined Church of Our Savior. Upon moving to Mt. Pleasant to live closer to grandchildren, they joined Church of the Holy Cross where their children belonged. Sibby and Charlie often invited Citadel cadets to their home for Sunday dinner following these services. More recently, modern technology allowed Sibby to watch church online.

In addition to her “Porch Ladies,” Sibby enjoyed her bridge group of lifelong friends who met in Summerville. Also, Sibby was a sustaining member of The Garden Club of Charleston and an active member of Colonial Dames of XVII, Charlestowne Chapter. For decades, Sibby absolutely loved St. Patrick’s Day festivities and other events at Hibernian Hall, along with her husband and family.

Sibby was pre-deceased by her husband, Charles Edward Harvey; her sisters, Myrtle Craver Bradham Riggs (Larry) and Nancy Craver Boyd (Louis); and, her brothers, Ivey D. Craver (Marguerite) and William Everett Craver, Jr. (Jane).

Sibby is survived by her children, Joni Harvey McLeod (Troy); Rachael Harvey Schuck Conte (Steve); Charles Harvey, Jr.; and Sibita Harvey Proctor; grandchildren, Grace McLeod Reyes (Spencer), Alan McLeod, Chaz Schuck, Lexi Schuck, Mason Proctor (Julia), Maddie Claire Proctor, Harvey Proctor (Clara); great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Rowan, Wiley, Ronin and Rosemary; her brother, Hope D. Craver (Sandra); her brother-in-law, Thomas L. Harvey (Johnnie); and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Church of the Holy Cross, 2520 Middle St., Sullivan’s Island, Monday, July 27, 2026, 11: 00 am, officiated by The Reverend David Cumbie.

Sibby’s burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interred next to her husband of 65 years.
