Sylvia Ginsberg Greene

December 16, 1927 — October 12, 2015

Sylvia Ginsberg Greene, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of George Greene entered into eternal rest Monday, October 12, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in Synagogue Emanu-El, 5 Windsor Drive Charleston, SC at 2:30 p.m. Interment, Emanu-El Cemetery, Sycamore Avenue, Maryville. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Sylvia was born December 16, 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida, daughter of Samuel Ginsberg and Sarah Horowitz Ginsberg. She moved to Charleston at age 4 and graduated from Memminger High School and Beth Israel Hospital Nursing School. She was a retired registered nurse after 35 years as Employee Health Nurse at St. Francis Hospital, and continued to work in corporate nursing for another 20 years. She was a member and past president of Sisterhood Synagogue Emanu-El, was a member of Hadassah, supported many local and national organizations, and loved her MahJong ladies.

In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by her daughter, Renee J. Greene (Dr. Michael Fish) of Southwest Ranches, FL; two grandchildren, Brandon A. Fish and Gilah I. Fish; nephew, Harvey Yaschik (Betty) and their children, Margo Tockerman (Steve) and Jeffrey Yaschik; niece, Sharon Cohan and her children Marcie Rosenberg (David) and Elaine Fischer (Lynn Nusl); nephew, Dennis Yaschik (Marsha) and their children Michael Yaschik and Mark Yaschik (Karly); great nieces and great nephews and many loving co-workers and friends. Sylvia and George were surrogate parents to many children and adults throughout their lives. In her last days, Sylvia said these are all "her children" regardless of what their parents might say. Together she and George, married for 66 years, were a loving, caring and generous couple who opened their home and hearts to countless others.

She was predeceased by her son, Steven R. Greene.
